Back then there was no ladies class so she was up against the men all the way, in some cases the only woman competing against over 400 men.
she was the first woman to compete in the 6 days for over 30 years.
At 5 foot 2 inches tall and weighing 8 1/2 stone she took on the best in the world.
her medal score counted 2 bronze 2 silver and 2 DNF
At first everybody thought that she was not serious but after beating many men on the first day in Germany they realised just how determined she was.
She then became famous around the world in motorcycling circles with articles about her in newspapers and magazines.

.When asked which was the hardest event she answered.
They are all hard in their own way. Australia was hard for me because I had a bad chest infection and the bull dust was making breathing difficult for me. But,then Holland was so very wet and cold which made some parts of the going like quick sand and ruts, ruts and more ruts !
